Warburg, Otto Heinrich
(1883–1970)
   German biochemist and Nobel laureate, 1931. Warburg studied the respiratory mechanisms of cancerous tissue as opposed to normal tissue and found that the oxygen intake in the former was distinctly lower. Unfortunately this discovery did not lead to a breakthrough in cancer research, but the importance of his work earned him the Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology.
