Freud, Lucien
(b. 1922)
   British artist. A grandson of Sigmund FREUD, Lucien Freud was born in Berlin and moved to England in 1933. He received his artistic training at the London Central School and the East Anglian School of Drawing and Painting. His first wife was Kitty Garman, the daughter of Jacob Epstein She sat for several very powerful portraits in the 1940s. Freud’s work has aroused considerable interest and examples have been bought for many national collections of 20th-century art. In recognition of his attainments he was created a Companion of Honour in 1983.
