Steinberg, Saul
(b. 1914)
   US cartoonist. Steinberg, the famous New Yorker cartoonist, was born in Romania, and practised as an architect in Italy until he escaped to the United States after the outbreak of World War II His drawings and watercolours had a moderate success until they were eclipsed by his gift for social satire in ink lines that often look like spontaneous doodling.
