Vinawer, Maxim
(1862–1926)
   Russian jurist and politician. Vinawer was a prominent St Petersburg lawyer, and a champion of equal rights for Jews. In the 1906 Duma (parliament) he was a leader of the Constitutional Democratic Party (Cadets). When the Duma was dissolved the following year, Winawer signed the Vyborg manifesto calling for a British-type democratic constitution, and was arrested and imprisoned. After the 1917 October Revolution, he was the foreign minister in a short-lived anti-Communist Crimean regional government, then fled to Paris where he lived as an emigré.
