Zaritsky, Yosef
(1891–1985)
   Israeli painter. Zaritsky was born in the Ukraine and received his artistic education in Kiev. He arrived in Palestine in 1923. He was involved in most of the major artistic trends in Israel: he was a member of the Jewish Artists’ Association in the 1920s; in the 1930s he was part of the more abstract Palestine Artists’ group; in 1949 with Marcel JANCO he formed the New Horizons group and, in the 1950s, the group evolved a style which they called ‘lyrical abstraction’.
