Arnstein, Fanny von
(1757–1818)
   Viennese hostess. Fanny, the daughter of the Berlin banker Daniel ITZIG, married Nathan Adam von Arnstein, court purveyor to Joseph II, and kept a glittering salon. During the Congress of Vienna, her balls and receptions in honour of the leading statesmen became the centre of political intrigue. A count of Liechtenstein was killed in a duel for her sake.
