Beer, Rachel (Richa)
(1858–1927)
   British newspaper publisher and editor. Born in Bombay into the well-known SASSOON family Rachel was brought to England at an early age. After serving as a voluntary hospital nurse, she married F.A.Beer, owner of the Observer, and became one of its regular contributors. In 1893 she bought the Sunday Times and became its editor, giving it a non-party line. She was also a gifted musician and several of her compositions were published.
