Bermant, Chaim
(b. 1929)
   British writer. Bermant was born in Poland, but his family emigrated while he was still young to Scotland. He was educated at Glasgow Yeshivah, Glasgow University and the London School of Economics. Since 1966 he has been a full-time writer and he is chiefly known for his sagas of Anglo-Jewish family life and his books on Anglo-Jewish history. He is also a regular contributor to the Jewish Chronicle. His books include Troubled Eden: An Anatomy of British Jewry (1969), The Cousinhood: The Anglo-Jewish Gentry (1971), Coming Home (1976) for which he won the Wingate-Jewish Chronicle Award and the authorized biography of Chief-Rabbi Immanuel Jakobovitz (1991).
