(b. 1926)
American actor and film director. Brooks was born in New York and began his career as a comedian, appearing particularly before audiences at Jewish holiday resorts. His films include The Producers (1968), Blazing Saddles (1974) - a spoof Western in which the Red Indians speak Yiddish, Young Frankenstein (1974), High Anxiety (1977), Spaceballs (1987) and To Be or Not To Be (1983) in which he reveals his preoccupation with Hitler and the Holocaust.
