Flusser, David
(b. 1917)
   New Testament scholar. Flusser was appointed professor of comparative religions at the Hebrew University in 1962. His special period of historical research has been the origins of Christianity, from the Judaism of the late Second Temple period to the compilation of the New Testament. He became internationally known for his work on the Dead Sea Scrolls. Among his works are The Dead Sea Sect and Pre-Pauline Christianity (1958) and Jesus in the Context of History (1969). He was awarded the Israel Prize for Judaism in 1980.
