Gestetner, Sigmund
(1897–1956)
   British industrialist and Zionist. Sigmund’s father David had settled in England from Hungary, and manufactured a cyclo-style duplicating process he had invented. Sigmund became chairman of the company at the age of twenty-three, and built it into a world-wide concern. He was an ardent Zionist and headed the Keren Hayesod and the Jewish National Fund in Britain, as well as being treasurer of the Joint Palestine Appeal. He was active in resettling refugees from Nazi Germany, and established a training centre for agricultural pioneers on his farm at Bossom in West Sussex. After his death, his widow and two sons managed the business and continued his Zionist and communal work.
