Halter, Marek
(b. 1932)
   French artist and communal leader. Halter was born in Poland. He spent the war in Soviet Uzbekistan, returned to Poland, but finally settled in Paris. Besides winning several awards for his painting, Halter is senior editor of Elements, the author of Le Fou et Les Rois (1977) (a study of the Middle East), and a novel Le Memoire d’Abraham (1985). He was chosen to be the first director of the Paris Centre du Judaisme and he has also served as the President of the European Foundation for Science, Art and Culture.
