Kishon, Ephraim
(b. 1924)
   Israeli humorist. Kishon was born in Budapest. He escaped from German and Russian camps and settled in Israel after the war. He is generally regarded as the leading Israeli humorist. He is the author of such plays as The Marriage Licence and It Was the Lark. His film comedies include Sallah and The Police-man and his books, such as So Sorry We Won, New York Ain’t America and My Family Right or Wrong, have been translated into every European language. He has produced a daily column for the paper Ma’ariv since 1952. and he has won innumerable awards both in Israel and abroad.
