Kohen

Kohen
(16–18th century)
Prague family of Hebrew printers. The printing enterprise was begun in Prague by Gershom ben-Solomon Kohen (d. 1544), who produced four prayer books, a lavish edition of the Pentateuch, and a sumptuously illustrated edition of the Passover Haggadah (1526). In the following year Gershom received a royal patent which authorized him to be the only Hebrew printer in Bohemia. He was joined by four sons and the business prospered, continuing through successive generations of the family until it merged with another house in 1784.
