Landauer, Gustav
(1870–1919)
   German revolutionary. In imperial Germany, Landauer was imprisoned several times as a political agitator, advocating anarchism based on individual freedom and responsibility in society. He was minister of public instruction in the short-lived Bavarian Soviet Republic of 1919, and was murdered by soldiers. His writings were posthumously edited by his friend Martin BUBER.
