Lanzmann, Claude
(b. 1925)
   French writer. Lanzmann was born in Paris and educated at the Sorbonne. He was part of the existential circle around Jean- Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir in the 1950s and he succeeded Sartre as Chief Editor of Les Temps Modernes. At the same time he also became involved in Jewish causes and he directed the widely acclaimed television film Shoah about the tragedy of the Holocaust. This has been shown throughout the western world and has done much to remind people of the enormity of what occurred.
