Liebermann, Max
(1847–1935)
   German painter. Liebermann was a celebrated painter of portraits and of landscapes in the impressionist manner. In 1920 he became president of the Berlin Academy of Art, but when the Nazis came to power he was dismissed from the post and his pictures removed from German art museums.
