Monsky, Henry (Zevi)
(1890–1947)
   US communal leader. A lawyer in Omaha, Nebraska, Monsky achieved Jewish leadership at a national level, particularly in B’nai Brith, of which he was president from 1938 until his death. Under his guidance it grew into the largest Jewish service organization in the world. During World War II Monsky initiated the all-embracing American Jewish Conference (1943) that endorsed the principle of a Jewish commonwealth in Palestine, and enlisted support for the victims of Nazism.
