Sassoon, Siegfried Lorraine

Sassoon, Siegfried Lorraine
(1886–1967)
English poet and novelist. Siegfried was a descendant of the famous SASSOON FAMILY of Bombay, his grandfather David having been the first one to settle in England. His mother was non-Jewish and he was brought up as an Anglican. He was one of the generation of young English poets over-whelmed in the mud and blood of Flanders in World War I. He published two volumes of war poems, reflecting the bitter reality of that experience. Among his later works were two novels with an autobiographical basis, Memoirs of a Fox-hunting Man (1928), and Memoirs of an Infantry Officer (1930).
