Schaeffer, Susan
(b. 1941)
   American writer. Schaeffer was born in Brooklyn and educated at the University of Chicago. Since then she has taught at Brooklyn College. Her novels include Falling (1973), which was named as one of the ten best novels of the year by Time magazine, Anya (1974) which won the Friends of Literature award, Time in its Flight (1978), Love (1980), The Madness of a Seduced Woman (1983) and Mainland (1985). She has also produced several volumes of short stories. She claims she is not a specifically Jewish writer, but nonetheless many of her novels and stories have Jewish themes.
