Schindler, Oskar
(1902–75)
   German industrialist. During World War II he saved many hundreds of Jews from the death camps by employing them in his factory at Krakow. He was recognized as a ‘righteous gentile’ by the State of Israel and his work was commemorated in Thomas Keneally’s Booker Prize- winning novel Schindler’s Ark and Steven SPIELBERG’S Oscarwinning film Schindler’s List.
