Steinman, David B.
(1886–1960)
   US bridge builder. Born in the shadow of Brooklyn Bridge on the Lower East Side of New York, Steinman was appointed professor of civil engineering at the University of Idaho at the age of twentythree. He designed and built over four hundred steel bridges all over the United States and in many other countries. In New York City he designed the Triborough Bridge, the span over the Harlem River, remodelled the Brooklyn Bridge and was the consultant for the George Washington Bridge.
