Streisand, Barbra
(b. 1942)
   American actress/singer. Streisand was born in Brooklyn. She achieved fame as the star of the Broadway hit musical Funny Girl, for which she won numerous awards. Her films include Funny Girl (1968), Hello Dolly (1969), The Way We Were (1973), Funny Lady (1975), A Star is Born (1977), Yentl (1983), Nuts (1987) and Prince of Tides (1990). Yentl which she also directed is the story of a Jewish girl who dresses as a boy in order to receive a Jewish education. It was widely acclaimed and is seen as Streisand’s attempt to reclaim her Jewish roots.
