Wiesner, Jerome
(b. 1915)
   US scientist. An electronics engineer, Detroit- born Wiesner carried out high level radar development for the United States forces in World War II. From 1961 to 1964, he was a special scientific assistant to President Kennedy and director of the US Office of Science and Technology. In 1971 he became president of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), probably the leading centre of its kind in the world, where he had previously held faculty posts. He was an active member of the Weizmann Institute Board of Governors from 1964.
