Behrman, S.N. (Samuel Nathaniel)
(1893–1973)
   US playwright and author. Born in Worcester, Mass., of immigrant parents, Behrman became one of the most successful playwrights on the American stage. His plays included The Second Man (1927), End of Summer (1936), Jacobowsky and the Colonel (1943) and But For Whom Charley (1964), produced in the opening season of the Lincoln Centre theatre in New York. His biography of Duveen was staged as Lord Pengo (1963) and the autobiography of his childhood in Worcester was the basis for the play The Cold Wind and the Warm (1958).
