Bloom, Harold
(b. 1930)
   American educator, editor and literary critic. Bloom was born in New York. He was educated at Cornell and Yale Universities and he now teaches at Yale. He is a prolific editor among whose many works include the 33 volume anthology, The Romantic Tradition in American Literature (1972) and the Oxford Anthology of English Literature (1973). Bloom has been influenced by the thought of Martin BUBER in his understanding of Romantic poetry and by kabbalistic ideas in his work on W.B.Yeats and the modern movement. He has been awarded the Morton Dauwen Zabel Award of the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1982 and a MacArthur Award in 1985.
