Capa, Robert (Andrei Friedmann)
(1913–54)
   US war photographer. Born in Hungary, Capa settled in the United States in the 1930s and became world famous for his photographs of men in battle, in the Spanish Civil War, China, the North Africa and Normandy landings in World War II, and the Israel War of Independence. Together with two other famous photographers, David SEYMOUR and Henri Cartier-Bresson, he founded the international photographic agency, Magnum Photos.
   He was killed by a landmine while covering the fighting in Indo-China. His brother Cornell (b. 1918) was a staff photographer for Life magazine before joining Magnum Photos.
