Danziger, Itzhak
(1916–78)
   Israeli artist. Danziger was born in Berlin, but moved with his family to Palestine in 1923. He was educated at the Calvin Private School in Jerusalem and received his artistic training at the Slade School of Art in London. There he was greatly influenced by the ancient sculptures of Egypt, Sumaria and India. In 1955 Danziger returned to Israel where, until his death, he taught at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa. Danziger is primarily known for his sculptures which involve a mass of different materials and techniques. His most famous early work was Nimrod, completed while he was still living in Europe. Other well-known pieces include the stone relief for the outside wall of the Givat Ram campus of the Hebrew University (1958), a work entitled Brotherhood produced for the Mexico City Olympic Games (1968), The Rehabilitation of Nesher Quarry (1971) and The Golan Tree Planting Ceremony (1977).
