Greenberg, Joanne
(pseudonym Hannah Green)
(b. 1932)
American writer. Greenberg was born in Brooklyn and educated at American University. Since then she has worked as a medical technician and taught at the Colorado School of Mines. She is the author of several novels including The King’s Person (1963), The Monday Voices (1965), In This Sign (1968), Founders Praise (1976) and A Season of Delight (1981). However the work which made her famous was I Never Promised You a Rose Garden (1964). This is the story of a young Jewish schizophrenic and it charts the course of her therapy and her final rejection of madness. It was a huge critical success both with literary and psychiatric commentators, sold widely and was later adapted into a successful film.
