Lichtheim, Richard
(1885–1963)
   German Zionist leader. Lichtheim came from an assimilated Berlin family, and studied economics. Before World War I he worked on the staff of the Zionist headquarters in Berlin, editing its organ, Die Welt. From 1913 to 1917, he served as the Zionist contact man in Constantinople. When the war was over he returned to Germany, and was appointed a member of the Zionist Executive, but resigned because he disagreed with WEIZMANN’S policies. After World War II he settled in Palestine. Lichtheim wrote a history of Zionism in Germany, and an autobiography called A Remnant Shall Return (Heb. 1953).
