Muller, Hermann Joseph

Muller, Hermann Joseph
(1890–1967)
US biologist and geneticist and Nobel laureate, 1946. Muller, a professor at the University of Indiana, was the first to establish that biological mutations were the result of chemical changes that could be induced artificially. This discovery developed from his early classical study of the fruit fly. His work provided the foundation for much of the later investigation in molecular biology. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine and Physiology in 1946.
