Pike, Lip (Lipman) E.
(1845–93)
   American baseball player. Starting at the age of thirteen, Lip Pike from Brooklyn was for thirty years one of the foremost players in the early history of American baseball - as a batter, fielder and later player-manager. In 1866, he became the first baseball professional with the Philadelphia Athletics. That year he set a record with six home runs in one game.
