Plisetskaya, Maya
(b. 1925)
   Russian dancer. Plisetskaya achieved fame as the prima ballerina of the Bolshoi Ballet, and her brilliance was recognized by the award of the Lenin Prize in 1964 and the title of ‘People’s Artist of the USSR’. Like Pavlova’s, her greatest role in classical ballet was in Swan Lake, though she also demonstrated her superb technique and vitality in modern Russian dances.
