Raphael, Frederic
(b. 1931)
   British writer. Raphael was born in Chicago, but moved with his family to England as a child. He was educated at Cambridge University. Raphael is known for his novels, many of which have a Jewish theme. These include The Limits of Love (1960), A Wild Surmise (1960), Lindmann (1963), Orchestra and Beginners (1967), Heaven and Earth (1985) and A Double Life (1993). The television series based on his Glittering Prizes (1976) was widely acclaimed and Raphael has also produced some highly successful film scripts including that for Darling (1966) and for Far From the Madding Crowd (1968). For many years he has reviewed for the London Jewish Quarterly.
