(1873–1943)
Austrian theatre producer. Reinhardt, who was born near Vienna, was the director of the Deutsches Theatre in Berlin and the founder of the Salzburg Festival. When Hitler came to power, he emigrated to the United States and continued his work there. His spectacular productions, innovations in stagecraft, and teaching methods for actors had a profound influence on the modern theatre.
