Remez (Drabkin), Moshe David
(1886–1951)
   Israel politician. Remez’ career followed the general pattern of the Second Aliyah. He belonged to the Poele Zion in Russia, settled in Palestine in 1913 and worked as an agricultural labourer there for five years. During the Mandatory period he emerged as a prominent figure in the Jewish labour movement, and served as secretary-general of the Histadrut (labour union) from 1935–45. From 1944–8 he was chairman of the Va’ad Leumi (the Jewish National Council). He was minister of transport in the first Israel government and was later minister of education.
