Pines, Yehiel Michael
(1843–1913)
   Pioneer of Hebrew. An early member of the Chovevei Zion movement in White Russia, Pines settled in Jerusalem in 1878. He was a Hebrew essayist and linguist, and worked with Eliezer BEN- YEHUDA to promote the use of modern Hebrew in the yishuv.
